Sam Mendes Oscar® winning director of American Beauty and Revolutionary Road is set to helm a slate of new iPhone commercials that will most likely debut as part of Steve Jobs iPhone announcement at Apple’s WWDC keynote on June 7th 2010. Engadget confirms what Gizmodo already unsurfaced in their iPhone debacle, that one of the primary new features to be highlighted in the spots will be the front facing camera and video chat.
“Sam Mendes is in the process of putting together a series of commercials for Apple’s next iPhone, which according to a tipster is being referred to internally as the Mammoth / N90. Besides that tip (with a handful of juicy details), a trusted source has confirmed to us that the ads will feature at least one spot where a mother and daughter are having a video chat conversation using the new front-facing camera.” Source Engadget
This wouldn’t be the first time Apple has hired some big names to help promote their products. Ridley Scott famously directed the debut 1984 Apple commercial and other big names such as Errol Morris and David Fincher. And with the news of Apple killing off their famously popular Mac versus PC ads, it’ll be interesting to see the marketing evolution (just like we saw with the iPod) of their new line of products mature with age.
