Remember earlier this summer when we told you about that wild movie that follows around a talking evil cat and hero dog? Directed by Marjane Satrapi, who makes up one-half of the team that gave us the fantastic Persepolis and severely overlooked Chicken With Plums, that film is called The Voices and it now has a protagonist and is on its way to production.
According to Deadline, producers Mandalay Vision and Vertigo Entertainment have their sights set on Ryan Reynolds to lead and they’ve already begun talks with the actor. The Black List project, which is scripted by Paranormal Activity’s Michael R. Perry, follows Jerry Hickfang, a character who would be played by Reynolds, described as “a lovable but strange bathtub factory worker who yearns for the attention of a woman in accounting.” Our main character is then led down “a fantastical path that ultimately brings him to salvation” by this two talking pets.
This would mark the first independent effort for Reynolds since Buried and certainly a welcome one. While he has a major year coming up with R.I.P.D. and lending his voice for The Croods and Turbo, it’d would be great to see him take on a more interesting project such as this one. I’ve always found the actor to be charismatic despite some of his choices, so it’s nice to see him in a role that requires a bit more.
Production kicks off in early 2013.
Are you looking forward to Reynolds taking on Voices?
