It looks like The Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds (Lantern comic artist Jason Palmer‘s rendering above) won’t be caught dead in his superhero suit. /Film is exclusively reporting that the star won’t be wearing any spandex, rather “a grey tracking motion/performance capture suit with led lights.” His suit will be added 100% entirely in post-production. /Film’s WB source assures us that “the suit will look cool” and they remind us that Ngila Dickson, the Academy Award-winning costume designer on The Lord of the Rings trilogy, is working on this. Check our their quote below and read the rest of the info (including a a few new tidbits) on /Film.
Remember, the Green Lantern suit is something that should look alien — it needs to seem other worldly. It encompasses any creature that wears the ring, and Hal Jordan is the first human to ever wear the suit. This was a chance for Dickson to do something different. You also have to consider that Hal changes into the suit multiple times in mid scene, and the cg also allows him to do this.
After an endless run of superhero movies, I’m down for something a bit different. After James Cameron‘s Avatar I put full trust in CG when used right and this sounds like this will be pretty cool.
What do you think about a 100% CGI suit? Are you excited for Martin Campbell’s The Green Lantern?
