As of late, Ryan Gosling has been packing his upcoming slate with promising projects. There’s Derek Cianfrance‘s The Place Beyond the Pines, which just recently added Bradley Cooper to the cast; there’s Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger, which could pin Gosling opposite Johnny Depp; there’s Ruben Fleischer‘s Gangster Squad, which could also feature Sean Penn and Josh Brolin; and, of course, his efforts that will be seen in theaters later this year: Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Ides of March, and Drive.

Then there were talks that Gosling would be making his directorial debut with The Idolmaker, a remake of Taylor Hackford‘s Golden Globe-winning film about a famed music producer. Regardless of whether or not that seems like a good choice for Gosling, the mere idea of Gosling putting himself behind the camera is enough to draw great interest. However, as of now, Gosling has removed himself from the project — at the very least, he’s put it on the back burner. [Deadline]

It’s understandable, though, considering how busy he’s been and how busy he’s going to be. I’m sure upcoming promotions for Drive, which could draw Oscar consideration, will pack his schedule along with the projects he’ll be working on. Nevertheless, it’s unfortunate that his first shot at directing is going to be put on hold.

In the meantime, check out our video interview with the actor for Drive, which hits theaters September 16th, 2011.
