The Break-Up, Fred Claus, Four Christmases, and Couple’s Retreat. Those are the four latest (and critically disastrous) Vince Vaughn comedy vehicles. Now Oscar-winng director Ron Howard has set his sights on the star for his next project, an currently untitled dramedy about infidelity. The script is being written by Allan Loeb (21, Things We Lost in the Fire) and is about “man who learns that his best friend’s wife is cheating and must then navigate treacherous waters to decide what do with that knowledge.” Loeb is also behind the upcoming Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps and The Baster.
I’d much rather see Howard return to comedy after the painfully tedious Dan Brown film adaptations. While I did enjoy Frost/Nixon, this looks like something he hasn’t done since his early years. Vince Vaughn (who just got married) can really only go up from his current position, so it’s nice to see him matched up with a competent director with a project that shows some promise.
The untitled project will start shooting this spring for Universal.
