I thought Tomas Alfredson was the perfect match for a John le Carre adaptation with last year’s finely-tuned, detached Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy, but we may have ourselves an even better option. Following up Control and The American, photographer-turned-director Anton Corbijn is prepping his take on A Most Wanted Man.
With Phillip Seymour Hoffman already set to star as an on-the-run half-Chechnian/half-Russian man arriving in the Islamic part of present day Hamburg, Germany looking to find his late Russian father’s fortune, Variety reports another addition to the cast. Robin Wright (Forrest Gump, Rampart) will take part in the ensemble, which also includes Rachel McAdams.
While I haven’t been impressed with screenwriter Andrew Bovell, who was behind the Mel Gibson thriller Edge of Darkness, dialogue is certainly not he most vital part of Corbijn’s films. Used sparingly, I’ve more marveled at his visual eye and I can’t think of a better fit for this material. Wright marks a fine addition, as she’s recently used to thriller territory in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Production is set for this fall for a likely 2013 release.
Are you happy Corbijn is moving forward on his next feature?
