After years in the motion-capture world, it looks like we may be getting Robert Zemeckis back to some real human contact for a good while. The Back to the Future and Forrest Gump director is readying his promising Denzel Washington drama Flight — his first live-action film in over a decade — for a fall release, and now we have news on a next possible project.
THR reports that the helmer has stepped in for David Gordon Green on the Fox project Taking Flight: The Hunt for a Young Outlaw, which tells the story of the infamous Colton Harris-Moore. Also known as the Barefoot Bandit, a thief by the age of 10, at 15 he went on a multi-state crime spree, stealing five planes, several boats, over a dozen cars and broke into homes and businesses before he was arrested in July of 2010 in the Bahamas.
With Green busy on his remake of Suspiria, Zemeckis is taking the reigns on the film being scripted by Dustin Lance Black (J. Edgar, Milk). The material certainly seems ripe for an adaptation and I imagine something like Catch Me If You Can mixed with a Mark Twain twist. It’s a little odd Zemeckis is taking on another Flight-titled project, but it’s great to see him behind the camera again in a live-action sense.
Do you think Zemeckis is a good fit for the material?
