With Angelina Jolie recently dropping Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity, Deadline reports Robert Downey, Jr. has signed on to play “the leader of a team posted at a remote space station.” The script was written by Cuarón, along with his son Jonas and it tells the story of Downey’s character and a female colleague (previously Jolie) who are “traveling outside the space station and the other team members are decimated by debris from an exploded satellite.” Downey will likely have a smaller part as much of the film is devoted to the female characters struggle to “get back to Earth and her daughter.”
Warner Bros is co-financing the film with Legendary Pictures. Robert Downey Jr. should take up temporary residence in London as Gravity will shoot there this summer then right Guy Ritchie‘s Sherlock Holmes 2 in early fall.
This is easily one of my most anticipated project due to Cuarón’s involvement. His 2006 masterpiece Children of Men is my favorite film of the past decade and I’ve been waiting for his next project for a long time. It’ s nice to see Robert Downey Jr. also admires his work, as this was the main reason he joined the project.
Are you looking forward to Gravity with Downey. Jr?
