The first trailer for Rupert Wyatt‘s Rise of the Planet of the Apes hinted at a different experience than the rest of the summer blockbuster line-up. Take that as a good or bad thing, but the second theatrical trailer only furthers that hypothesis. It looks like we have an experimental look at life-like apes for two-thirds of the film, than a evolution (or should I say a revolution) into an action-heavy uprising for the remainder. It’s still up in the air whether it will succeed, but it will certainly be interesting to behold. The film stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, and Andy Serkis. Synopsis:

A single act of both compassion and arrogance leads to a war unlike any other — and to the RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. The Oscar-winning visual effects team that brought to life the worlds of Avatar and Lord of the Rings is breaking new ground, creating a CGI ape that delivers a dramatic performance of unprecedented emotion and intelligence, and epic battles on which rest the upended destinies of man and primate.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters August 5th, 2011.
