It’s gone through name and release date changes, but on August 5th, Rise of the Planet of the Apes will finally be unleashed onto the world and Fox is wasting no time in promoting the film, from brief four and fifteen second trailers to the unveiling of concept art via LiveStream. That was just the appetizer though, as earlier this morning, an actual full-length trailer was released online. You can check it out below via Apple.
As a giant Planet of the Apes geek, there is no movie I anticipate more this year and although the trailer was brief, it got me excited to finally see the final product. And this is despite the fact that it’s hard to take James Franco seriously as a scientist and that no matter how awesome WETA is, and those visuals were amazing, the apes are going to come off fake. It’s a suspension of disbelief issue on my part, but no matter how life-like CGI becomes, it’s always going to not feel real. Still I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t just watch that trailer four times in a row and got minor goosebumps; I totally did and I’ll probably watch it four MORE times before going on with my day.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes stars Franco as scientist Will Rodman who tests a new miracle drug on apes with an unintended side effect: it makes the test subjects highly intelligent. By attempting to save mankind, Will accidentally dooms it as the apes get smarter and decide to revolt until the leadership of the smartest ape of them all Caesar. Frida Pinto, John Lithgow, and Brian Cox co-star, and Andy Serkis provided the motion capture for Caesar as well as most of the other apes.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters August 5th, 2011.
Thoughts on the trailer? It’s already better than Tim Burton’s version, right?
