Tracking Michael Fassbender as a lawyer who experiences a sudden, dark descent into the criminal underworld, The Counselor was instantly dismissed by audiences upon release this past October, but retained a few supporters, including us. Placed in our top 50 films of 2013 rundown, we said that Ridley Scott and Cormac McCarthy’s The Counselor is “the kind of comedy that’ll loop in hell.”
For those that read the original script, we know that Scott didn’t include everything, but come next month, we’ll be able to see what was left on the cutting room floor. 20th Century Fox have unveiled plans to release an unrated, extended cut of the film on Blu-ray with a runtime of 138 minutes, which adds 21 minutes to the theatrical runtime of 117 minutes.
While it’s anyone’s guess what Scott actually shot from the script and included in this new version, after some of his director’s cuts have significantly improved upon the theatrical releases, we can’t wait to find out. Also featuring a one-hour making of documentary, check out the details below, including the cover art and an unused theatrical poster.
