We can’t imagine The Beatles, nor their influence, will ever leave the forefront of popular culture, and this summer their resonance continued. Not only did their 1964 feature A Hard Day’s Night get added to The Criterion Collection, but it is also touring the country in theatrical release. While we’ve dug up a fantastic interview with director Richard Lester, first brings news on another feature surrounding the band.
Announced in a press release today, a new documentary is coming from director Ron Howard that takes a look at the touring years of the band, with backing by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison. It’s said to track their “journey from the early days of the Cavern Club in Liverpool and engagements in Hamburg to their last public concert in Candlestick Park, San Francisco, in 1966.”
While there’s no release date in sight, hopefully we can expect it in the next few years. In the meantime, check out a recent one-hour conversation with Lester below, who goes into detail about his experience with the band shooting A Hard Day’s Night.
Are you looking forward to another Beatles doc?
