One of these things is not like the other. Coming on September 14, 2012 in THREE DIMENSIONS(!) is the FIFTH film in the beloved Resident Evil franchise. It’s a strange beast, the franchise is. You assume you don’t know the people who see these films without fail, and then you meet them.
In one case, that person (whom I met and was very friendly) is an uber-intelligent D.C. resident who works for a think tank. So do with that information what you will. I still haven’t processed it myself. The sub-titles for the three sequels have so far been Apocalypse, Extinction and Afterlife. What’s after Afterlife? It’s a fun game to play with friends, guessing the next title. Alcohol should be involved.
The plot of the fifth film is, uh, zombies. And Milla Jokovich kicking people. Hard.
Meanwhile, George Clooney’s The Ides of March – very much his, as he’s directing, co-writing and co-starring – is in the middle of filming and has an October 14th, 2011 release date. Ryan Gosling, Marisa Tomei, Philip Seymour Hoffman,Paul Giamatti all also co-star in the project. [Box Office Mojo]
Based on the play by Beau Willimon, Ides tells the story of a young, idealistic campaign staffer (Gosling) who’s confronted by the dirty side of the politics he’s dreamed to become a part of. Clooney plays the governor Gosling’s Stephen Myers is on the campaign trail to get re-elected. It’s not set yet whether the film will get a platform release or a cold, wide opening like Clooney’s The American did last year, to only modest success. Ides will be presented in 2D, most likely.
