Hollywood seems to insist that if you’re an R-rated film and don’t have a red band trailer, you’re left out of the pack. So with that notion CBS Films have delivered a fairly tame red band look at Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ The Kings of Summer, fitting for what looks to be a fairly light-hearted effort. Playing almost like a music video with our newcomer director’s visuals backed by a hip-hop track, it’s enough to get us into theaters at the end of the month.

In our review we remarked that the comedy is “filled with compelling imagery and kinetic editing,” but for a “film clearly attempting to hit the funnybone, the script only comes off amusing and doesn’t often hit a comedic stride.” One can see the trailer below for the film starring Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Alison Brie and Mary Lynn Rajskub.

The Kings of Summer arrives on May 31st.
