Transformers: Dark of the Moon isn’t the only robot-fighting blockbuster this year. Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy, who recently surprised with the enjoyable Date Night, is stepping up his game in the CG arena with Real Steel. We previously saw a teaser, but the full theatrical trailer has now arrived.
Hugh Jackman certainly has charisma, but this looks as formulaic as they get. Though it seems the creative team has put more thought into characters than we’re likely to see this summer with Michael Bay‘s latest. The shot of Jackman jumping the air to punch (as his robot copies his movement) looks pretty funny. Let’s hope it translates better in the film. The buzz is good on this one though, as DreamWorks have already set forth to make a sequel. The film also stars Dakota Goyo, Kevin Durand, Anthony Mackie and Evangeline Lilly. Check out the trailer below via Yahoo and let us know what you think.
Synopsis: Hugh Jackman plays Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.
Real Steel hits theaters October 7th, 2011.
