Although there have been rumblings around Hollywood for varying Wizard of Oz related projects, it appears that Disney, fresh off their successful Alice in Wonderland remake, will be ‘off to see the wizard’ first.
According to Deadline, the studio has locked down Rabbit Hole screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire to handle rewrites on the film which will feature the ‘wonderful wizard’ much more prominently than the classic Victor Fleming film.
The project, titled Oz: The Great And Powerful, will be shot in 3D with Sam Raimi (Spider-Man) finally committing to direct. Raimi has previously announced that he would like Robert Downey Jr. to star as Oz but the actor has yet to commit to the project.
Production will start next year on Oz: The Great And Powerful.
