There have already been hopes getting higher and eyes watching wide open while audiences are waiting for word on the edgy reboot of the classic snow white tale. This news made headlines back in June with Hollywood vet director Brett Ratner set to produce.

Well new details have just come about including some eye catching rumors about new talent both in front and behind the camera that have recently become interested in taking on this movie. FirstShowing reports that Natalie Portman, who you may know from the successful Star Wars prequels or V for Vendetta, who also just received major buzz from critics for her performance in  Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, has expressed interest in portraying the lead, Snow White, in the flick. We also may have a director looking to take charge in this project, and that would be Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie). Again, this information can only be regarded as rumors right now but if they end up becoming full fledged news headlines, than we may be able to expect a lot more out of this re-imagining than one may expect.

We don’t know too much about the plot or filming locations or even a name at the moment, but we do know that it’s not going to be “Your grandfather’s Snow White.” Ratner was asked about the project earlier this year.

“This is not your grandfather’s Snow White. Melisa went back to the 500 year old folk tale and put in some of the things that were missing from Walt Disney’s film. His dwarves were miners, and here they are robbers. There is also a dragon that was in the original folk tale. Walt made one of the great movies of all time, but ours is edgy and there is more comedy. The original, made for its time, was soft compared to what we’re going to do”

So we have the 7 dwarfs as robbers, a dragon, and a much edgier plot. This could turn out to be quite the interesting movie if done well with a great cast and crew, such as the one rumored here. All we do know is that this is not going to be a kids Disney film. We’ll just have to wait and find out what eyes will be watching when Snow White graces our presence with a whole new look.

Are you excited for a Snow White reboot? Do you think Natalie Portman could pull off the lead in this film?
