Yesterday’s story of Penelope Cruz joining Lars von Trier‘s Melancholia proved to be false, but here is another casting announcement with the actress. THR’s Heat Vision Blog is reporting (and since has taken down) that Penelope Cruz (Nine, Broken Embraces) will be joining Johnny Depp in the Rob Marshall-directed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The film’s story “revolves around the Fountain of Youth.” I recently watched Nine and Chicago for the first time. I loved the latter, but I don’t know how Marshall and co. could have screwed up Nine so bad. His talent shown in Chicago and (some) elements of Nine still give strong promise to Pirates 4. Considering he has a relationship with Cruz from the failed Weinstein film, I’m looking forward if they can redeem themselves with this project. I love Cruz in almost everything she does, so I can’t wait to see how she fits into this summer blockbuster.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is shooting in Hawaii this summer and will be released on May 20, 2011.
