Paul Verhoeven, the much-loved auteur of socially aware camp-fests like Basic Instinct, Total Recall and Starship Troopers, looks to be making a return to the action-adventure genre, this time set in 1914 “that it is both ‘Indiana Jones-ish’ and ‘Hitchcockian'” [Cinematical].
Here’s what the filmmaker had to say to MTV:
“I am working on a movie now that is… situated in 1914. Basically, Indiana Jones-ish you could say, but also Hitchcockian,” he explained in a recent interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz. “We are scripting it. It’s an idea that exists already… from another medium, and so we are making it now into a film narrative.” Which medium, Josh asked. “A game, a video game.”
What video game you ask? /Film’s Peter Sciretta is guessing Jordan Mechner’s The Last Express. The game takes place on the Orient Express right before WWI.
Could it be?
Do you like Verhoeven’s films? Would you like to see a video game adaptation by him?
