Before he gets small later this summer, Paul Rudd is doing some good ol’ fashioned drama with The Catcher Was a Spy. Premiering at Sundance earlier this year, the WWII-set feature comes from Ben Lewin (The Sessions) and also stars Mark Strong, Jeff Daniels, Paul Giamatti, Sienna Miller, and Guy Pearce. The true story follows Rudd as Moe Berg, a professional baseball player who became a World War II spy. Ahead of a release next month from IFC Films, the first trailer has now arrived.
“From the start, there’s plenty to like about The Catcher Was a Spy, directed by Ben Lewin and starring Paul Rudd,” Dan Mecca said in his review. “Based on the fascinating life of pro baseball player Moe Berg and adapted from Nicholas Dawidoff’s book of the same name, this is the type of film that feels slightly out of place at Sundance. There’s nothing particularly controversial about the subject matter, nothing brazen or overly ambitious in the technique. Lewin is clearly angling for a classical Hollywood studio picture aesthetic and he mostly succeeds, only sometimes betrayed by his budget.”

The Catcher Was a Spy opens on June 22 and Ant-Man and The Wasp opens on July 6.
