Paul Greengrass, fresh off the unfairly overlooked Green Zone has, according to The Hollywood Reporter, already been looking at his next project. You’d figure it would be something in the vein of his previous films like United 93 or The Bourne Supremacy/Ultimatum, but it’s something quite different; a James Cameron-produced remake of the 1966 sci-fi film Fantastic Voyage. In case you’re not familiar:

The original revolved around a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent on a miniature submarine to save the life of a defecting Soviet scientist. The story then followed the biological adventures the team encounters in trying to save the scientist and themselves.

Greengrass certainly needs a hit after the disappointing box-office performance of Green Zone, but it still seems strange that he’d do a 3D science-fiction remake. His handheld aesthetic would certainly not fit the CGI-heavy conditions. That being said, if the paycheck for this funds another film in the vein of United 93, I’m down.

Paul Greengrass doing a remake of Fantastic Voyage; good or bad?
