According to The Playlist, director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum Paul Greengrass has dropped out of the next Bourne film do to complications with Universal. Two scripts have been written by two different writers for the next film, one by George Nolfi and one by Josh Zetumer. The problem is that no one consulted Greengrass on the hire of a new screenwriter while he was on production of his next film (which also stars Matt Damon) Green Zone. Other problems include all the money that Greengrass has been spending on Green Zone (over $150 Million). When asked for comment on why Greengrass left Universal cited “creative differences.” There is no news regarding a new director and what this means for the status of a fourth film.
Two words come to mind: thank god. This will obviously hinder the progress of a fourth Bourne film which means I can keep my sanity for a while. As I have stated numerous times in the past, a fourth Bourne is a bad idea. The trilogy is amazing and Ultimatum should be Bourne’s cinematic end. I would rather see everyone involved go on to other projects. I wonder if Damon will go anywhere near a non-Greengrass-directed Bourne. If we are lucky the answer will be no.
Are you upset Greengrass is dropping out of Bourne 4? Do you think it will ever get made without him?
