On April’s Fools Day it was (seriously) rumored that Bourne favorite Paul Greengrass would direct a 3D remake of Fantastic Voyage for producer James Cameron. Deadline reports he has stepped away from the project and will be headed to Treasure Island instead.

Although he isn’t confirmed on the project due to final decisions on a screenwriter, it will be “a stylized adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson novel that Sherlock Holmes producer Lionel Wigram is working on at Warner Bros.”

There has been over 50 TV and film adaptations of Treasure Island. The most recent notable one was the 2002 Disney film, which I quite enjoyed. I’d actually like to see Greengrass tackle something other than a Matt Damon-led thriller. As for the Fantastic Voyage remake Cameron and Fox are pursuing other big names to direct.

Are you happy Greengrass dropped Voyage? What about him taking on Treasure Island?
