Variety is reporting that Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli‘s Area 51 has been filmed and Paramount has acquired the rights to distribute. The project was filmed for just under $5 million, quite the budget hike after the $11,000 for Paranormal Activity, which has gone on to make over $107 million and still in the top 20 after 10 weeks in release. His new film features the same found-footage technique and a cast of virtually unknown actors including Reid Warner, Darrin Bragg and Ben Rovner. The film which “tells the story of three teens whose curiosity leads them to the notorious Area 51 portion of Nellis Air Force Base in the Nevada desert” completed principal photography three weeks ago and is looking for a 2010 release. What will be his next project after Area 51? Another Paranormal Activity.
