My most anticipated blockbuster of 2011 has to be the J.J. Abrams/Steven Spielberg collaboration Super 8. Currently shooting in Weirton, West Virginia, Paramount has set a date for the theatrical bow. It will open next to Universal’s Fast Five on June 10th, 2011. Like most films this upcoming summer, it is also smushed between two huge blockbusters. Matthew Vaughn‘s X-Men: First Class opens a week before and Martin Campbell‘s The Green Lantern hits a week later.

Super 8 is one film among a decent summer slate for Paramount. Thor kicks things off early May and we also have Kung Fu Panda 2, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Captain America: The First Avenger. Their winter is a bit more promising with Spielberg’s Tintin and Brad Bird‘s Mission: Impossible IV.

Super 8 stars Elle Fanning , Amanda Michalka, Kyle Chandler, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Zach Mills, Beau Knapp, Joel Courtney, Ryan Lee and Riley Griffiths. The $50 million film takes place in 1979, is an ode to Spielberg’s earlier films, and it involves aliens. That’s about all I want to know before June 10th.

Will you see Super 8 opening day?
