Heat Vision is reporting that House star Olivia Wilde will saddle up alongside Daniel Craig, who replaced Robert Downey Jr., in Cowboys & Aliens. She will play Ella, a character that “joins up with mysterious gunslinger in an unlikely uprising against an alien invasion.” Transformers and Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci worked with Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof to form the script. Kurtzman and Orci, as well as Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are producing the film along with Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, the writer of the original graphic novel.
Cowboys & Aliens, which is based on the 2006 graphic novel series follows “an extraterrestrial species as it lands in Arizona in the mid-1800s. The aliens plan to quash the Wild West and enslave humanity, but the cowboys and native Apache have other plans.”
Cowboys & Aliens currently has a summer 2011 release date. Jon Favreau‘s Iron Man 2 hits theaters in May and Wilde can also be seen in December’s Tron Legacy.
