The other day we reported that Leonardo DiCaprio was eyeing the title role in Clint Eastwood‘s Hoover. Today we learned that Leo will be teaming up with Oliver Stone in the upcoming film Travis McGee. [THR]
The film will be an adaptation of a mystery novel series by John D. MacDonald, about a beach bum who searches for lost property at a small fee. The first installment will feature the title character searching for a lost treasure and Fox has made it clear they intend to turn this into a franchise.
Leo will produce along with Jennifer Davis Killoran and Amy Robinson. The screenplay was adapted by Dana Stevens (City of Angels) and Gary Fleder (Kiss the Girls). No word on when production will begin.
When I read the description, the first thing that comes to mind is Steven Soderbergh‘s Oceans’ series. Though Oliver Stone is stylistically far from the series, it would certainly be an interesting take on the story. Either way, I expect it to be well made with a solid performance by Leo.
How should this film be made? Have you read any of the books?
