Since any New York cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

The most exciting theater to hit New York in years opens today. They’ll begin with The Purple Rose of Cairo and Taxi Driver on Friday. Saturday and Sunday unbelievably packed, the schedule including The Spirit of the Beehive, Vivre Sa Vie, The Long Day ClosesFemme FataleGoodbye, Dragon Inn, and Noah Baumbach‘s “dream double-feature” of Babe: Pig in the City and Eyes Wide Shut.

Jerry Lewis is celebrated in “The Kid Turns 90,” which brings Frank Tashlin features (Artists and Models, The Geisha Boy, Who’s Minding the Store, and Rock-a-Bye-Baby) and three directed by the man himself (The Nutty Professor, The Errand Boy, and The Bellboy).

Anthology Film Archives

Brakhage! Dog Star Man and a program of shorts can be seen this Saturday, while another selection and the 261-minute version of Dog Star Man play on Sunday.

Late_Spring_Japanese_PosterFilm Forum

A new restoration of Late Spring has begun its run.

“Pioneers of African-American Cinema” brings Birthright on Sunday afternoon.

Big plays on Sunday morning.

Museum of the Moving Image

“Hitchcock Weekend” brings a 35mm Technicolor IB Print of Vertigo, Dial M for Murder in 3D, and The Wrong Man.

Crimes and Misdemeanors plays on Sunday.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD - Japanese PosterNitehawk Cinema

This Friday and Saturday, catch midnight showings of Cannibal Ferox (on 35mm) and Underworld.

Before noon, Hanna and There Will Be Blood play with brunch and, in the latter case, a musical performance.

IFC Center

The Wicker Man, Pulp Fiction, The Shining, and a print of The Lost Boys play at or near midnight.

The Room screens at midnight.
