Since any New York cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.
Museum of the Moving Image
Koyaanisqatsi kicks off “See It Big! Documentary” on Friday. Saturday brings the follow-up, Powaqqatsi, as well as Robert Flaherty‘s Louisiana Story. Close out Reggio’s trilogy with a Sunday screening of Naqoyatsi.
Labyrinth screens on Sunday, but is currently listed as being sold-out.
Spectacle
You’ve probably heard about The Shining Backwards and Forwards — but do you know The Shining Backwards and Forwards and Inwards and Outwards In High Definition Anaglyph 3D (Chaos Mix)? If something that insane-sounding is at all to your liking, seek it out on Friday or Saturday.

Film Society of Lincoln Center
A series celebrating one of the great mother-daughter pairings, “Jane and Charlotte Forever,” will offer films by the likes of Lars von Trier, Serge Gainsbourg, and two from Agnès Varda. A discussion with the artists will take place on Friday evening.
Anthology Film Archives
The third leg of Anthology’s American International Pictures series commences.
The Man with a Movie Camera, Kino-Eye, and Forward, Soviet! play on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively.

“The Coen Brothers.” That name says it all, wouldn’t you think?

A program of shorts directed by Shirley Clarke will screen this Friday.

Labyrinth and a print of Tsui Hark‘s The Blade will show near midnight on Friday and Saturday.
