Greenberg co-writer/director Noah Baumbach may re-team with his star Ben Stiller in a bigscreen adaptation of Mr. Popper’s Penguins, Variety reports. Most interesting to note is the script is written by Sex Drive, She’s out of My League and Hot Tub Time Machine writers Sean Anders and John Morris. The project is set up at 20th Century Fox.
The plot of Richard and Florence Atwater‘s Newberry award winning 1938 book can be found below:
Mr. Popper’s Penguins is one of the handful of American books for children that has attained the status of a classic. First published in 1938, this story of a housepainter who is sent a male penguin by the great Admiral Drake, and who, thanks to the arrival of a female penguin, soon has twelve penguins living in his house, has amused and enchanted generations of children and their parents.
I’ve loved Anders and Morris’ writing and it’s interesting that Baumbach would take on one of their scripts, but I’m all for it after his excellent work with Stiller on Greenberg. I remember reading Penguins as a child and enjoying it. We also reported another project he has set up, The Emperor’s Children. No word yet which one will go into production first, but check back to TFS for all updates.
What do you think about Baumbach and Stiller teaming up again? Are you a fan of Mr. Popper’s Penguins?
