Jane got a gun, but it’s got nothing to do with Lynne Ramsay‘s upcoming western. Although he stays busy in front of the camera, Thomas Jane (The Punisher, The Mist) is prepping up his next directing gig after 2009’s Dark Country and now we’ve got word that the film is moving forward.
We learned during Comic-Con this summer, thanks to Film School Rejects, that Jane’s project is a western titled A Magnificent Death From a Shattered Hand and he already had Nick Nolte and Jeremy Irons on board.
We’ve now got an update out of out of the American Film Market, from Variety, that Jane himself will take a role in the film he scripted with Jose Prendes and that financing is in place to shoot next spring in Utah.
The project follows “one man’s journey for redemption in the ruthless West — where an ex-soldier is relentlessly tracked down for the murder and rape of a well-to-do woman. He must face mercenaries, tribal warriors, and women of sin to clear his name and uncover the true story behind the manhunt.”
It’s hard to imagine a trio of more capable, gruff leading men to explore the western terrain, so I greatly look forward to seeing what Jane comes up with. Check out his quote regarding the project below.
“My intention is for the movie to utilize themes that characterize the classic Western films – their exploration of rugged individualism versus civic duty, of personal valor versus the violence of pre-civil worlds – to create a film that works on the level of rousing entertainment.”
Are you looking forward to Jane’s western?
