While their $150 million White House Down crashed and burned at the box office this past weekend, Sony Pictures is hoping audiences connect with their next tentpole, Elysium (although, sadly, their sequels to Grown Ups and The Smurfs should make up for any losses). They’ve now dropped a new trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 follow-up.

Those looking for new footage will be disappointed, as this one is simply a shorter version of the extended one recently released, made for theatrical showing. However, a new TV spot has also landed, which does include a few new bits as we follow Matt Damon and his search for medical help to an elite space station. It’s still looking like one of the strongest sci-fi entries of the summer and one can check out both below for the film also starring Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner, Wagner Moura, Alica Braga, and Diego Luna.

Synopsis:

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Elysium arrives on August 9.
