Over the holiday break we got a frankly awesome teaser for The Impossible, which marks the English-language debut of Juan Antonio Bayona. Starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts, the film follows a family during the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. Empire has a set of new stills, which can be seen above and below, as well as a brief new tidbit from the director.
He told them the film is “more or less the same” as his fantastic horror flick The Orphanage, saying his latest film is “about how you deal with pain, how you overcome death, what is family.” I’m glad an emotional core is still firm in the center of his story, an element that elevated his Orphanage about the other entries in its genre. Check out the stills in the post.
Empire also has a new trio of stills from the Indonesian action flick The Raid, which blew up at TIFF and is set to play at Sundance this month. We featured two great trailers for Gareth Evans‘ film that Sony Pictures Classics will distribute this year and now we get a better look below. Taking place among 30 floors of an apartment building, this one is said to have non-stop action, for which Evans was inspired by films like Hard Boiled, Die Hard and Assault On Precinct 13. Check them out below.
The Impossible and The Raid are both expected to have a 2012 release, with the latter making a showing at Sundance 2012 this month.
