It seems like Melancholia has been around for a while, even though it’s not even out yet. When the film screened at Cannes, it made headlines for two reasons: star Kirsten Dunst won best actress for her performance, and director Lars von Trier was officially declared “persona non grata” (unwelcome person) and kicked out of the festival for jokingly sympathizing with the Nazis. That was way back in May. The film screened at TIFF earlier this month, and we gave it the highest accolades.
So if you feel like you’ve been hearing a lot about Melancholia over the past few months, that’s because you have. But with the film’s release closing fast, recent news is more promotional than controversial. Today we have six new character one-sheets for your viewing pleasure.
The characters featured in the one-sheets are [via Empire Online]:
Kirsten Dunst as Justine, a woman who may (or may not) be depressed (or she may be entirely rational)… her flighty father (John Hurt), faithful fiance (Alexander Skarsgard), hot-tempered (but not so bad) brother-in-law John (Keifer Sutherland) and sister Claire (Charlotte Gainsbourg), who’s sort of second-lead in the film. Director von Trier also gets a tribute, which makes an odd sort of sense since he’s also almost a character in the film.
Melancholia hits theaters on November 11 and VOD on October 7th.
How do you expect Melancholia will compare to von Trier’s other films?
