Despite it being impossible due to MGM financial struggles, it was a smart decision to hold off the release of the Red Dawn remake. Stars Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson are on their way up to Hollywood after roles in Thor, The Hunger Games, Snow White and the Huntsman and more. Now with a release a few months away, we’ve got a small update to the 1984 cult hit.
USA Today (via /Film) has revealed two new stills from the film, featuring Hemsworth, Hutcherson, and The Wackness star Josh Peck, who are coming in for the roles original led by the trio of Charlie Sheen, Patrick Swayze, and C. Thomas Howell. I’m still hesitant on this update, especially after the plans to change villains from China to North Korea for monetary purposes, but maybe director Dan Bradley will come up with something worthwhile. See the photos below and check out some test screening impressions we shared a few months back.
Synopsis:
In Red Dawn, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky – shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the Wolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.
Red Dawn arrives on November 21st, 2012 thanks to FilmDistrict.
