After helming V for Vendetta and Ninja Assassin, I’m interested to see how director James McTeigue changes things up for his Edgar Allan Poe tale The Raven. John Cusack stars as our main character and we’ve already got a set photo and an official look (above), but now EW provides another look, as well as a few more details. Check it out below.
As Poe, Cusack teams up with a detective hunting a serial killer who dispatches his victims in ways which echo the famous Baltimore horror writer’s stories. Scripted by Ben Livingston and Hannah Shakespeare, it is a fictionalized account of the last days of Edgar Allan Poe‘s life, in which these events occur.
McTeigue talked about the style of the movie, saying the film “works through Poe’s stories in an increasingly gruesome way, whilst at same time kidnapping his fiancé.” They took real elements from Poe’s life,” as “he was a troubled figure and that’s alluded to in the film. Ultimately he becomes one of the characters in his own story.”
The Raven is tentatively scheduled for a March 9th, 2012 release and co-stars Alice Eve and Luke Evans (who recently dropped out of Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Only God Forgives because of Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit).
