Following our first image at David Fincher‘s Gone Girl, we have another look at the mystery thriller, but one you might not expect. Rather than another still from the Gillian Flynn adaptation, Fincher himself shot an eye-catching photo of our leads, Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, for the cover of the latest Entertainment Weekly.
Before we get to that, we have a few new details on the project, which follows as Affleck as Nick Dunne, a husband whose wife goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. Having read the book, I’ve wondered if they would keep the same structure, which goes back-and-forth between the investigation and Amy’s point of view of when she first met her husband-to-be, before they both coalesce. According to a new quote from Flynn, we imagine it might be put back into chronological order.
She told the magazine, “There was something thrilling about taking this piece of work that I’d spent about two years painstakingly putting together with all its eight million LEGO pieces and take a hammer to it and bash it apart and reassemble it into a movie.” Fincher also adds with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, that “we may have been too beholden to the source material.” That certainly echoes my feelings on that 2011 adaptation, so hopefully better things are in store for Gone Girl. Check out his cover below for the film also starring Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Missi Pyle, Patrick Fugit, Casey Wilson and Emily Ratajkowski.
Gone Girl opens on October 3rd.
