Plots involving look -likes are found in multiple genres, from David Cronenberg’s eerie Dead Ringers to the POTUS impostor comedy Dave. Canadian director Denis Villeneuve will soon add to this sub-category of films with An Enemy, and a new pair of images provide more of a glimpse at the film’s lead Jake Gyllenhaal as he tackles two roles.
Based on a novel by Jose Saramago, the thriller features Gyllenhaal as a teacher who sees his double in a film and decides to seek the actor out. We introduced the Jarhead star acting opposite himself last month, but the new stills suggest a more tortured man behind the beard. Or is it men behind the beards? It’s hard to tell. See images via Cinema Teaser above and below, also featuring Sarah Gadon.
Gyllenhaal, who boarded An Enemy last year, will also appear alongside Hugh Jackman in Villeneuve’s recently completed Prisoners. Both films have yet to see official release dates, but are expected to hit theaters sometime this fall.
We’ve also got new images from Neill Blomkamp‘s sci-fi blockbuster Elysium, which recently revealed its first trailer. Led by Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, Wagner Moura and William Fichtner, the film is set in 2154 and tackles a 99% vs. 1% scenario, but in space. Blomkamp is also already getting casting underway for his next film, the sci-fi comedy Chappie and word has it that the South African rap-rave group Die Antwoord has been cast in the lead roles. We’ll provide more information as it arrives and one can check out the images below thanks to Sony Pictures and see the latest trailer in 4K resolution, if you need those extra pixels (just click “original”).
Elysium arrives on August 9th.
Do you think Gyllenhaal has the chops to shoulder this kind of film? What do you think of the Elysium stills?
