With a fall release date locked in, as well as an film festival premiere at Venice late next month, we expect to see much more from Alfonso Cuaron‘s space epic Gravity soon. Following our first trailer, footage is set to debut at Comic-Con in a few week’s time and now another new look at our lead Sandra Bullock has landed.
Coming from USA Today, below one can see Bullock as Ryan Stone, a medical engineer on her first space shuttle mission. She’s joined by George Clooney‘s Matt Kowalsky (Clooney) and their mission soon goes wrong, leaving them in a terrifying situation. Cuaron opened up a bit about the process “that’s never been done before,” saying it took “elaborate wire work” to fit Bullock in “a specially constructed 9-foot cube” in order to properly convey the choreography of her struggle to return to her ship.
He also talked about the character’s mental state, saying, “She’s confronted with the idea that Earth is so far away. She can see the whole Earth and she doesn’t belong to it. What is really scary for people is being lost or alone in the immensity of the void.” He adds, “When you see this Earth from outer space with all of its beauty and colors, you don’t see all of these separations between these countries. Earth is just one organic, beautiful thing. We happen to live in a very stunning and beautiful place.” Check out that new still below and return for more coverage of one of our most-anticipated fall films.
Gravity opens on October 4th.
