Last week at this time we brought you a poster of Chris Evans as Captain America: The First Avenger punching Hitler’s face. Today we have some more goodies related to the upcoming superhero blockbuster. First up, the film has been screened for early press (those that work in magazines, etc.) and the response is reportedly terrific.

Devin Faraci from Bad Ass Digest has heard from multiple sources that the “film is great” and JoBlo reiterates that statement. Jeff Sneider from Variety has heard that people were “were very impressed” and “feel it might even be better than the first Iron Man.” That’s not a hard bridge to cross in my opinion, but that is besides the point. We’ll be getting another full-length trailer attached to Transformers: Dark of the Moon in a little over a week, but let’s move on to a new featurette from the film.

Norton Security (shield, get it?) premiered a decent sized featurette titled Captain America: Behind The Shield. It features interviews with the cast and crew including our lead Chris Evans, director Joe Johnston, and producer Kevin Feige. With the addition of some neat behind-the-scenes footage, it does a good job of catching up non-fans with mythology of the film, especially related to that shield. Check it out below, followed by new images from the flick (click each for high-resolution).

Synopsis:

“Captain America: The First Avenger” will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving.)

Paramount also debuted a brand new site for the film, which includes a handful of high-resolution wallpapers. Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters on July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Dominic Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, Neal McDonough and Derek Luke.

What do you think of the early buzz and new images and footage? Could it be the best superhero film of the summer?
