Having dabbled in both action and comedy genres in recent years, 2012 certainly cemented Mark Wahlberg in both. Not only did he lead the year’s biggest hit comedy with Seth MacFarlane‘s Ted, but the actor also finished shooting Michael Bay‘s Pain & Gain and signed on to lead one of Hollywood’s most massive franchises with Transformers 4. We’ve now got some minor updates on both, thanks to Collider.

Speaking with the outlet, Wahlberg said the plan is to shoot Bay’s robot sequel this May and then segue directly into a sequel to Ted, which could mean production right around a year from now considering the normally lengthy shooting schedule for Bay. We already know that a Ted 2 is a priority for Universal (not surprising considering a $500 million-plus gross for the original) and Wahlberg said that the Family Guy writer/director already has some “sick” ideas for the follow-up, so a summer 2014 release isn’t out of the question. But before we get to any of that, Wahlberg will be starring in Allen Hughes‘ crime drama Broken City and one check out a new trailer below via MTV for the film also starring Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Broken City lands on January 18th.
