Heatvision is reporting that New Line/Warner Bros has hired director David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers, Fred Claus) to produce and possibly direct a new film in the Vacation series. The film would follow Rusty Griswold (son of Chevy Chase’s character) grownup and taking his own family a new adventure. No actors have been attached yet (including any returning Griswolds) and the film will indeed recognize the first film.
I’m hoping this strays away from a cheap remake as seen in the upcoming Karate Kid film, but rather a film that stands on its own as a worthy addition to the franchise. The original is one of my favorite films of all time. I enjoyed the hell out of Christmas Vactation, and while European and Vegas certainly didn’t live up to expectaions, I still had a great time with them.
