After starring on the Emmy award-winning TV show Modern Family, it was only a matter of time before Eric Stonestreet made his way to big screen roles. According to THR, the TV star has lined up another feature and will be joining Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy for the upcoming comedy, Identity Thief.
Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon will be helming the project, which “centers on a milquetoast family man (Bateman) who gets a life lesson in stepping up when his identity is stolen by a mess of a woman (McCarthy).” Stonestreet will also be joining Amanda Peet, John Cho, Jon Favreau and Genesis Rodriguez. He will be playing Big Chuck, “a realty broker with an outsized personality who has a run-in with McCarthy and Bateman‘s characters.”
Stonestreet was last seen on the big screen in Bad Teacher alongside Cameron Diaz, with his indie project The Loft also in production. Although he will be a supporting player in Identity Thief, I’m confident that he’ll still provide some big comedic heft with his part as Big Chuck. After last year, we know that Gordon doesn’t have any problems directing a worthwhile comedy, so I have to say I’m looking forward to this one.
Scott Stuber and Pamela Abdy will be producing the project, which is currently shooting, and hits theaters on May 10th, 2013.
