Writer/director Mike Mills made his narrative feature debut in 2005 with the generally well-received coming-of-age dramedy, Thumbsucker. After five years his follow-up effort, Beginners, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall. This seemingly charming drama won’t hit theaters until this summer, but you can check out the trailer now:

Beginners stars Ewan McGregor as a man struggling to cope with his father’s (Christopher Plummer) revelations and new leash on life (details in trailer). But his father’s bravery seems to inspire him to embrace life and pursue love with the lovely Mélanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds).

Beginners opens June 3, 2011.
