Last week we reported that two time Oscar nominated Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) signed on to help scribe the latest James Bond adventure. Well today The Guardian reported that Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon) is in talks to play one of the most iconic bond villains of all time… Ernst Stavro Blofeld. This is great news for all James Bond fans who were hoping for a more dramatic story in the upcoming sequel, which will be the last in a trilogy. After Bond 23 the movies will no longer have linked stories. But Daniel Craig (Quantum of Solace) is signed to play Bond in 5 movies.

I am very pleased to hear about this but also a little sad at the same time. Blofeld was a great character for his time but in order to work for an audience in this time the character will need to be drastically modified. Perhaps one big change that will need to be made in order to work well on film for a modern day audience is the loss of the Persian cat the is always on Blofeld’s lap. There is a reason it was spoofed by Myers.
