/Film reported today that the new comedy Brüno had it’s LA premiere last night with one scene cut out. A scene involving the recently passed Michael Jackson’s sister LaToya Jackson in an interview talking about her brother was removed out of respect for the recently deceased king of pop and his family. It is unclear at this point if Universal will cut the scene from all of it’s prints but they are definitely leaning in that direction. Sacha Baron Cohen has yet to make a statement and probably won’t.
This isn’t the first time that a studio has had to make a quick change because of the headlines. After 9/11 Columbia Pictures removed a teaser trailer for Spider-Man that featured the World Trade Center. I can’t say I am surprised in anyway. This cut in Brüno is a clear example of the studio covering it’s own ass.
