Say what you will about the necessity of remaking the brilliant thriller-drama Let The Right One In, it’s got the parts to make a great film. Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) directing, Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) and Kodi Smit-McPhee starring and now master composer Michael Giacchino scoring. [MovieWeb]

Giacchino recently won an Oscar for his Up score and lost a job scoring ABC’s Lost, which he is perhaps most well-known for. let Me In appears to be a pretty tight remake, based on the trailer and such.

If Giacchino achieves what he did with his Cloverfield theme (“Roar!”), which played over the end credits, with perhaps a bit more subtly, Moretz and Smit-McPhee will merely have to deliver their lines and Reeves will only have to press record to make for a modest success. People often forget how important music is to film. As a reminder, recall those first 10 minutes of Up. Sure the imagery is beautiful, but don’t tell me that song wouldn’t make you cry put to anything else. That said, hopefully the other talents give/gave it their all, because Let Me In could be something to watch (and hear) in its own right.

What do you think of Giacchino? Is he the next John Williams?
