Juding from his recent output, Wanted and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter helmer Timur Bekmambetov has been aiming to mix some Michael Bay-esque gloss and theatrics with his own flavor of action, but for his next project, he will actually team up with the blockbuster box-office king.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bay has brought aboard Bekmambetov to direct one of his projects titled Heatseekers. Set up at Paramount, the film follows “an ex-military pilot who takes on a group of aerial pirates,” with F. Scott Frazier coming on the project to polish up George Mahaffey‘s original script.
While Bekmambetov’s Vampire Hunter landed with a thud in the United States this summer, it did rack up nearly $120 million worldwide, perhaps one of the reasons Paramount is looking to grab the director. Although Bekmambetov’s Hollywood films have veered far too often into inane territory, the concept seems like a perfect fit for this duo, so hopefully Frazier can get the script right — or at the very least, serviceable.
Could the team of Bay and Bekmambetov produce an entertaining blockbuster?
