McG (Terminator Salvation) will be bringing the Man of Steel back to the big screen, Deadline reports. A few years back McG was attached to direct along with a script by J.J. Abrams. David Goyer is currently working on a draft and Christopher Nolan is still creatively involved, but that won’t last long since he apparently has the upmost trust in McG and will let him be during production. Nolan believes after Terminator Salvation he has the chops to pull off a franchise starter, which he also did with the underrated and profitable Charlie’s Angles series. While the release date is still up in there, expect a 2012 or 2013 summer release. Here’s a few more tidbits:
– As recently announced at Show West, Superman along with all upcoming DC properties will be released in 3D. Whether or not it will be shot in 3D is still unanswered. But since Warner’s is very pleased with the post conversion of Clash of the Titans, don’t expect this to be shot in 3D.
– Braniac and Bizzaro will be the villains, apparently they’ll be teaming up in Batman and Robin fashion.
– Expect plenty of cameos i.e. Super Dog and Super Girl. Warners is taking a page out of the Marvel handbook and wants to set up spinoffs. Super Dog, if all goes to plan, will be done in the vein of Alvin and the Chipmunks and Underdog.
– This will be PG. It will be geared towards kid like the new Spider-Man reboot.
– A well known actor will play Superman. Don’t expect an unknown. Warner Brothers apparently wants to, understandably, certify a sure thing. With a recognizable face attached, that’s more or less guaranteed. Here’s the shortlist: B.J. Novak, Shane West, Stuart Townsend, and Ashton Kutcher (who was rumored years back for Singer’s reboot)
– If everything goes to plan, expect a teaser attached to The Green Lantern next summer.
