Aside from this year’s The Monuments Men and a bit part in The Zero Theorem, Matt Damon has yet to confirm any upcoming features on his slate. So when the rumors came this week that he may jump back into Bourne, it was hardly shocking. While the expected studio denial came through, we’ll have to wait and see how it shakes out and in the meantime, we’ve got word on two major projects he’s lining up.
According to The Playlist the actor has come aboard Christopher Nolan‘s currently shooting sci-fi epic Interstellar, which will see him on set for two weeks in Iceland in an undisclosed role. There’s no further details than that, but it’s certainly a surprise to see such a high-profile actor come aboard at this stage, joining Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow, Topher Grace and more.
The site also reveals he’ll be trying again at his directorial debut. As we know, he attempted to tackle last year’s Promised Land, but his busy schedule got in the way, and not able to give it his undivided attention, he handed the reigns over to Gus van Sant. He’s now instead linking up with writer Chris Terrio, after his work on Argo gave Ben Affleck a Best Picture and Best Screenplay.
They’ll team together for A Murder Foretold, which comes from David Grann‘s New Yorker article (that can be read here), following the true story of a Rodrigo Rosenberg, an attorney from Guatemala who was assassinated in 2009. But the twist comes into play that he knew this even would happen and recorded a videotape (seen below) that revealed who was behind it. Set up at Paramount, this intriguing tale is expected to be Damon’s debut as director and after Interstellar, he’ll certainly have the time to dedicate his attention to it.
What do you think of Damon joining Interstellar? Are you looking forward to his directorial debut?
